The four-year-old was unaware that Leehan had composed a unique set of vows just for him. As she presented them to an already emotional audience, the moment became overwhelming for Gage. Gage broke down in floods of tears as soon as Leehan started her recital. According to the Daily Mail, Leehan said, “I want you to be safe, and to try your hardest and to be a good person.” Before she could proceed, Gage abruptly embraced her and became overwhelmed by his emotions. The audience couldn’t help but let out a collective ‘awwww’ as Leehan attempted to calm him down. “Don’t cry, sweetheart,” she reassured him, although at that moment, it was understandable if Gage needed a break from being disciplined. Leehan continued, “I want you to understand that you are a unique young man. You possess remarkable intelligence, charm, and compassion towards others. Your presence has greatly influenced the person I have become, and while I may not have brought you into this world, you have undeniably enriched mine.” It was not entirely unexpected that both Leehan and Newville were moved to tears before completing their vows.
