A fisherman saw something strange on an iceberg in the middle of the sea. He approached and couldn't believe his eyes.

abrador is a province located on the east coast of Canada. The climate is harsh and contact with the outside world is very minimal.

People and animals are forced to live with what nature has given them. Fishing is a good industry, so many people spend their days on the high seas.

While aboard a crab fishing boat off the coast of Labrador, Canada, a woman named Mallory Harrigan and her colleagues notice something unusual. They find themselves in a situation they thought was impossible…

There, about 4 miles off the coast, was a rather large, mushroom-shaped iceberg – and an unwitting passenger stranded on its tip.

The little "gray thing" on the iceberg seemed to be trying to survive the cold.

“We thought it was a little seal pup,” Harrigan tells The Dodo.

But then they took a closer look.

It turned out that the animal riding the iceberg wasn't a marine species. It was an Arctic fox - and it was in real trouble.

They knew they couldn't leave her to her fate. They had to act quickly.

Rather than leave the fox to face the grim fate that awaited it, Harrigan and her colleagues decided to try to help. They stopped by the iceberg in their boat and pulled the frightened castaway to safety.

“We managed to get her on board, even though she was struggling to stay on,” Harrigan says. “We knew we were her only chance of survival, as the winds had changed and were pushing all the ice further out to sea.”

The fox had lost all hope of being saved, but now help had arrived.

Harrigan and the other rescuers quickly assembled a small bed aboard their boat and offered food to the exhausted animal so it could regain its warmth and strength.

Then they began the journey back to land together.

After returning to port, Harrigan and the crew gave the male fox some more food – and then released him.

"We left it in an old doghouse," she says. "It was gone and that was it!"

It only took a few minutes for Harrigan and the others to do their best to save the fox, but this simple act of kindness changed everything for the animal.

“We are glad we saved an animal,” the woman says, noting that the fox seems fine and appears from time to time to remind its rescuers of the life they saved.

"We still manage to see him from time to time!"
