An alleged group of car thieves who worked fast and furious at night to steal over 250 cars and auto parts in the Bronx were arrested and charged Friday, investigators said. The Bronx District Attorney's office indicted 16 alleged members of the Trinitarios street gang in a nearly 1,000-count indictment, with grand larceny, auto stripping, and other offenses.

‘Pit Crew’ Car Thieves Arrested Following Over 250 Bronx Heists: New York Investigators

A coordinated theft ring operating in New York City has been dismantled following a sweeping investigation into a series of high-speed car thefts across the Bronx. Authorities say the group, which investigators nicknamed a “pit crew” due to their fast, organized methods, is linked to more than 250 separate vehicle thefts and break-ins

A Highly Organized Operation

According to law enforcement officials, the suspects operated with unusual precision for street-level car thieves. Rather than acting individually, they worked in teams, each member assigned a specific role—similar to a racing pit crew.

Some individuals were responsible for breaking into vehicles, others handled ignition bypassing or electronic hacking devices, while additional members acted as lookouts or drivers for quick escapes.

This division of labor allowed them to steal vehicles in a matter of minutes, often before police could respond to the scene.

The Scope of the Investigation

The investigation, led by New York authorities, focused on a surge in auto thefts throughout the Bronx over several months. Patterns began to emerge, linking dozens of cases through surveillance footage, recovered vehicle data, and coordinated timing.

Officials eventually connected the incidents to a single organized group responsible for a widespread theft network.

The stolen vehicles were often targeted based on demand, with some reportedly being resold, dismantled for parts, or transported out of the area.

Arrests and Charges

Multiple suspects have now been arrested in connection with the operation. They face a range of charges, including grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, and conspiracy.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether additional arrests are expected, but investigators believe the network may have included more participants or collaborators assisting in fencing stolen vehicles.
