'Dallas' hero Patrick Duffy spoke about his biggest tragedy: the murder of his parents

 

Patrick Duffy is known in our country for his role as the good brother Bobby Ewing in the much-loved series "Dallas".

The long-running soap opera from the US was a hit around the world and made several comebacks due to its popularity.

Duffy's character was originally supposed to be killed off, but the series' producers changed their mind.

But while Duffy became a hero on the much-loved show and enjoyed his celebrity status, behind the scenes he was struggling with his own heartache, a trauma that changed his life forever.

The murder of his parents

Patrick Marie and Terrence Duffy's parents owned a bar in Boulder, Montana. On November 18, 1986, his parents were shot and killed by two disgruntled teenagers who had been thrown out of the bar earlier in the evening.

The 75-year-old father of two has spoken of the terrifying evening he lost two of the most precious people in his life.

"They shot both my mother and my father"

"My father kicked these two young men out of the bar sometime that evening," he recalls.

"So they went and had a drink somewhere else... and came back to the bar to kick his ass - when they came into the bar with their guns, they shot him. There was no one else in the bar, so they shot my mom and dad," says Patrick, who was 37 at the time.

The killers, 19-year-old Sean A. Wentz and Kenneth A. Miller, both 19.

Wentz, the one who pulled the trigger, was sentenced to 180 years in prison. Miller, his accomplice, was paroled in 2007.

“When my parents were killed, I went through all the emotions of the horrific event – ​​shock, anger and everything else – but I never felt disconnected from (my parents),” Duffy says.

The two men responsible for the murder of his parents have been released early.

"I'm fine with that," Duffy said when one of the men was released in 2007. "My point of view is that he's already been punished. You know, whether he's in prison or out of prison."
